THE CHAU MOSQUITO CAMPAIGN ARRIVES IN URUGUAY

With the Uruguayan Red Cross as the local node, the CHAU MOSQUITO CAMPAIGN arrived in Uruguay.

In keeping with the campaign's spirit of building a community prevention network, the launch was attended by authorities from the Ministry of Environment, representatives from the Emergency Coordination Centers of Montevideo and Canelones, the Ministry of Public Health, the National Emergency System (SINAE), the Uruguayan Scout Movement, and the National Governing Council of the Uruguayan Red Cross, along with volunteers from the institution.

Although Uruguay has not experienced large outbreaks, exposure to the mosquito is high, making it important to act proactively with prevention measures. In the Americas, the total number of cases in 2024 represents an increase of more than three times compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

For this season, the CHAU MOSQUITO campaign in URUGUAY will focus strongly on the country's coastal region, where environmental conditions favor the presence of the vector, and on the metropolitan area, where population density amplifies the risk of spread. The strategy integrates work with scout groups and educational communities, relying on participation as a driver of prevention.

As a member of this regional network, the CHAU MOSQUITO campaign in URUGUAY is led by the Uruguayan Red Cross, with collaboration from Edupas, the organization that developed the campaign, and support from SC Johnson.
